The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. In 2020, federal courts blocked an executive order issued by then-President Trump to ban TikTok after the company sued on the grounds that the order violated free speech and due process rights. His administration brokered a deal that would have had U.S. corporations Oracle and Walmart take a large stake in TikTok. The sale never went through for a number of reasons; one was China, which imposed stricter export controls on its technology providers. The House has passed legislation that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away any time soon. Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech.

Jade green awnings and neon signs went up, and soon, imperial roof structures topped every building. Since then, this New Chinatown has starred in big Hollywood movies like Rush Hour, I Love You Man, and Beverly Hills Ninja, among many others. Kim Ky has been an institution in the San Gabriel Valley for decades, with multiple restaurants spanning even to Orange County. This popular Chiu Chow restaurant boasts a menu that rivals the Cheesecake Factory’s. A photographer was among those arrested during clashes between protesters and law enforcement on the University of Texas at Austin campus on Wednesday.

And set up an encampment in the middle of campus, no matter what the rules say. So students who aren’t feeling safe in this protest environment don’t necessarily have to go to class. The problem with that is that, over the weekend, a series of images start to emerge from on campus and just off of it of some really troubling anti-Semitic episodes. In one case, a guy holds up a poster in the middle of campus and points it towards a group of Jewish students who are counter protesting. Nick, Isabella Ramírez just walked us through what this has all looked like from the perspective of a Columbia student. And from what she could tell, the crackdown ordered by President Shafik did not quell much of anything.

When the legendary Golden City closed about a decade ago, Full Moon House took over its space on N. Besides the hanging LED icicles and brand-new orange napkins, the dining room looks nearly identical to its past self. Paper dragons fly over the space and there are red lanterns wherever you look, making it one of the more festive places in the neighborhood to grab a meal.

In Sichuan, pork ribs are traditionally smoked with cypress boughs, but at Sichuan Impression, the pork ribs are marinated with green tea. The ribs are also marinated with dry chiles, scallion, and minced peanuts before being smoked. The end result is a rack of barbecue ribs whose meat falls off the bone. Perhaps the most famous traditional hot pot chain from China is Hai Di Lao. Although it has many different broths to choose from, like vegetarian mushroom or tomato, the most popular flavor is its signature Sichuan-style broth.

Xiao Long Kan Hot Pot

In recent years, some upscale new places have opened serving some of the highest-end Chinese food in the U.S., though there is still a wealth of reasonably-priced strip mall finds from Alhambra and Rowland Heights. The San Gabriel Valley in particular boasts some of the strongest regional Chinese restaurants anywhere, so it’s worth digging deep and searching out those small mom-and-pop spots hidden away in food courts or behind the main streets. Here now, are 25 of the essential Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles. And now these schools only have a week or two left of classes. We don’t know if students are going to leave campus for the summer.

She ends up leaving student protesters and the faculty who support them feeling betrayed and pushes a campus that was already on edge into a full blown crisis. But also, as the winter wears on, all the same intense protests just continue unabated. This is a university that has both one of the largest Jewish student populations of any of its peers. But it also has a large Arab and Muslim student population, a big Middle Eastern studies program.

So these students in real-time are beginning to test some of the things that Columbia’s president has just said before Congress. This is “The Daily.” Today, the story of how Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators, and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech. “A lot of these regional malls are rebranding their spaces to attract restaurants,” Kim said. Gen Korean BBQ is an example of one of the new breed of restaurants growing in malls. There’s a new guard in malls,” said Chris Simms, the CEO and founder of Lazy Dog, which has around 50 ski lodge-themed restaurants around the country.

Since opening in 2019, Steep LA evolved into a daytime casual teahouse for grab-and-go Chinese tea drinks that can include a festive sit-down kung fu tea ceremony. At night, cocktails are made with tea-infused spirits, that accompany small plates with dried shiitake mushrooms and shrimp umami platters, and braised pork bowls with rice and truffle shavings. A family with Chinatown roots took over Plum Tree Inn when it closed in 2020 and revamped it as Broadway Cuisine in 2021. The 6,000-square-foot restaurant has old-school Chinese dining palace vibes with an expansive menu featuring dishes like egg foo young, Peking duck, and moo shu pork. MLBB makes its Sichuan-style dipping sauce using a dried powder mix of minced chile and chopped peanuts.

There are three locations, and the newest in San Gabriel offers the most extensive menu of the three. Though it’s known for its Cantonese barbecue, Auntie Kitchen even offers the Hainan chicken rice. That dish comes with complimentary soup, and portions are generous while prices remain reasonable. T-Kebob is a Chinese barbecue skewer restaurant with a Korean twist. Open late until midnight, it offers a vast variety of meats, vegetables, seafood, and carbs to choose from.

The restaurant has a cult following and over 1,000 stores around the world. MLBB — as it’s often abbreviated — only serves its signature soup base, which contains 19 herbs and is topped with an additional dose of chile, onions, and sesame oil. Even its mild variety is considered spicy for the average person not from Chengdu. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the spicy broth and equally spicy chile dipping sauce. Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee is a Guangzhou-based chain specializing in beef brisket noodle soup as well as other Cantonese fare.

Designs from each nation with their own strong cultural identity are reflected in their exterior and interior designs. World War II slowed the progress, but after the early 1950s, Italian designers set the trend and remained the driving force until the early part of the 1980s. In the United States, automotive design reached a turning point in the 1920s when the American national automobile market began reaching saturation.

Once the models are completed there are more reviews involving more people. They also provide the base data for milling a full-size clay when required. Rendering & Graphic Quality

For 3D designs, Blender is a very capable open-source free software that offers more advanced modeling and sculpting tools – but will require more technical knowledge and experience to use effectively. Tight communication between designers and modelers is key in figuring out the transition from a 2D drawing to a 3D model. Add a bit of height into that grill, or lower the roofline at the back a touch? It’s a two-way process with the designer bringing the aesthetic sensibility and the modeler’s practicality and creative problem solving skills. Designers use tape directly on the clay surface (usually long after the clay people have gone home) to try out different lines, and get a feel for what works.

Car Design Review X: Aurelien Doisy

But these are only the early steps of the entire creative process and are not sufficient to fully appraise the design of a car or a truck. As you can see from our reviews, the price of vehicle design software varies greatly, from free car design software like Blender to expensive industrial options like CATIA that cost thousands. For example, the most basic type of car design software are 2D CAD (computer-aided design) programs, like Adobe Illustrator, which are used to only design the outside aesthetics of cars. These are lower cost and easy to learn, but far more limited than other programs.

Work and mobility restrictions had a knock-on effect on the automotive sector, which has since experienced further disruption due to supply chain shortages. In addition to NURBs, Rhino 3D supports point clouds, polygon meshes, and subdivision geometry. The latest version of the software, Rhino 7, allows you to create organic shapes with a range of SubD tools.

Automotive design is the process of developing the appearance (and to some extent the ergonomics) of motor vehicles, including automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, buses, coaches, and vans. During research, The Redline Venice Hotel also worked alongside the descendants of Reese and his history-making cousin Irving Tabor. Known as “The Wizard,” Reese migrated from New Orleans to Venice in 1905 and became an esteemed inventor, designer and businessman known for his vibrant decorations around the area. Establishing the first Black family in the area, he would invite his cousin Tabor to relocate where he founded the first Black-owned maintenance company in Venice. According to Sales, there are even more plans to inform visitors of the area’s rich history through QR codes placed around the walls of each unit.

Polymer models are often lighter, cheaper, and easier to transport than clay ones. The occupants and the engine are the most important things designers consider during packaging. They play a major role in determining a vehicle’s proportions and dimensions.

This marketing experience made the entire industry take note of the high risks involved in incorporating major design advancements into their production cars. Globalization accelerated during the 2000s, touching virtually every point of our lives. In the automotive sector, the motto “design anywhere, make anywhere, sell anywhere” became standard. This had its advantages, like the fact that consumers had a wider range of options to choose from.

There are toilets available for visitors to use at the Anne Frank House on the underground floow, as well as one accessible toilet. In the spring of 1944, Anne found out that the government planned to gather diaries that were being written once the war was over. The Pels slept in the room in which the families cooked, ate meals and listened to the radio together.

The only moving images of Anne Frank of 22 July 1941 were shot here, when the girl living next door was getting married and Anne Frank leaned out of the window to see the bride and groom. It was in this house that Anne started writing in the red-chequered diary that she got for her thirteenth birthday. Here you can see the original red-checked diary Anne Frank received for her 13th birthday on 12 June 1942. A few weeks later, the Frank family had to go into hiding. She dreamt of becoming a famous writer and journalist. In 1957, the Anne Frank House organisation was established, and its main purpose was to restore the dilapidated building and open it up to the public.

"Amsterdam blue sky view over city rooftops, pretty tree lined Prinsengracht canal and Anne Frank House (right)." For the series a replica bookcase was built and the space was made to look like an storeroom for files and records.

On hearing this plan, Anne set about rewriting her diary. Her dream was to become a well-known writer and journalist. This revised version of Anne’s diary is made up of 215 pieces of paper. Anne wrote about spending time in the attic, here she would chat with Peter, look out of the window at the blue sky, the clouds and the tree in front of the building. The Van Pel’s son Peter slept in a cramped room at the bottom of the stairs that led to the attic.

The photo shows Luna Cruz Perez (14) playing the part of Anne Frank in 'her' room on set. The Anne Frank House, in collaboration with Every media, launched the YouTube series ‘Anne Frank video diary’. This is a photo of the set that was specially built for this series, since filming on location in the original hiding place is, for various reasons, not possible. The set was made up of the main rooms of Anne's former hiding place, life-size with correct measurements and  furnished based on sources at hand, such as Anne's Diary and the scale models. Obviously Anne did not record every item in the hiding place in her diary. To give visitors an impression of what the rooms in the hiding place looked like furnished, Otto Frank commissioned a scale model, one of each floor.

Otto decided to save at least the height marks, the map of Normandy, and Anne’s pictures. He cut out the wallpaper with everything on it and stored it in a safe place. Anne’s diary, which she received on her 13th birthday and wrote in while hiding, is one of the most powerful exhibits in the museum. The original diary, along with other notebooks where she penned her thoughts, dreams, and fears, are on display.

Anne saw Peter as a boring and dull person at first but the two soon became good friends, they even shared their first kiss in Peter’s bedroom. Otto Frank’s office, for instance, was where he would listen to the radio and meet with this other colleagues. Today, the office features displays of personal items and documents. Since it was first published, the diary has solid many millions of copies and has been translated in over 70 languages. In August 1944 the family’s worst fears became a reality.

He died in Vienna about ten years later, in 1972, aged 61. Victor Kugler was one of the people who helped hide Anne Frank and her family and friends during the German occupation of the Netherlands. In Anne Frank’s posthumously published diary, “The Diary of a Young Girl,” he was referred to under the name Mr. Kraler. The war was winding down rapidly – the Allies were already in Brussels, Belgium – but there was time for one last train to Auschwitz.

Accommodations like this 2-bedroom apartment in Jordaan and The Blossom House Amsterdam are good for small groups of two to four people. For a more unique stay that captures the essence of Amsterdam living, you can also opt for the Renovated B&B houseboat. These vacation rentals are highly rated not just for their proximity to the historic site but also for their guest service excellence. The ticketing system in the Anne Frank House ensures that you can build and follow an itinerary following or leading up to your visit.

They lived a happy life, until the Netherlands was occupied by Nazi Germany. After going into hiding in 1942, they would never return to this address. After the Frank family had left, several other families lived at Merwedeplein 37-2. In 2004, housing cooperation Ymere, in collaboration with the Anne Frank House, restored the house to its original 1930s style. After careful research, furniture was selected that could have been used by the Frank family. As a visitor, you experience this story through quotes, photos, videos, and original items.

The set of the Anne Frank video diary allowed us to show you what the rooms would have looked like when Anne and the others were in hiding there. In the next photos you will first see the original room  in the actual Anne Frank House and after that what the same space looked like on set, furnished. This is the bedroom of Hermann and Auguste van Pels, which was also used as living room and kitchen for Anne and the others. The group spent around two years living in the annex and Anne spent her time writing about her life, her mundane days, her hopes and dreams and everyday thoughts in her diary.

There is no denying the influence these programs have on the automotive world. Computer renderings are used not only to perceive the concept as an object but also to determine the car’s physical dimensions and centimeters so that detailed designs may be generated. During development, many versions are often considered, resulting in several clay models being produced. Yes, car designers use CAD software to draw designers, create precise 3D models, and simulate them in real-world environments.

The second Dassault Systemes software on our list, CATIA is a very advanced and powerful software suite covering CAD, CAM, CAE, product lifecycle management, and more. Designers have their own individual styles and inspirations that come through in their work. When a designer has narrowed down their idea, the next step is to produce more detailed sketches (or renders, if you want to sound like a pro) in Adobe Photoshop. Adding in details, color, shading, reflections and shadows brings the design to life and jazzes up the presentation level so it’s suitable for review. The Indian automotive industry has mainly focused on making vehicles for global brands, often adapting international designs for local markets. Aspirants working in other fields of design such as architecture, product design, and engineering can easily transpose to automobile designing.

Automotive Design Process: From Concept Ideas to Production

These programs allow you to create your own models from scratch, customize exteriors and interiors, and produce photorealistic renderings. One of the first considerations you need to make is whether you want to do 2D or 3D modeling. This is very common in car manufacturing and companies typically use several different software instead of just one program.

Six trends that will shape the automotive industry’s future

It is also important to note that during the process, designers could discard the initial idea or change it drastically, extending the years further. Before World War II and until the early-1990s, Czechoslovakia had a strong presence in the automotive industry with manufacturers like Skoda, Jawa, Tatra, CZ, Praga, and Zetor. Czech automobiles were generally known for their originality in mechanical simplicity and designs were remarkably Bohemian as evident from Tatra cars and Jawa motorcycles. During the Communist regime, the design started falling back and ultimately the domestic automakers ended up as subsidiaries of EU-based companies. Germany is often considered the birthplace of industrial design with the Bauhaus School of Design, before it was closed down by the Nazi regime.

An aerodynamic test also examines vehicle design stability when driving and maneuvering through sharp corners. Packaging simply means fitting all the components of a vehicle within its specified dimensions. This aspect of designing cars is probably the most restrictive, affecting vehicle balance. According to Reuters, Tesla’s engineering chief Lars Moravy said the company would avoid the risk of investing in a “revolutionary” manufacturing process. Some commentators believe this marks a complete shelving of the Model 2 plan.

With advanced roller wheels on both sides of the wheel, you can rotate them up or down, push them in and out, or move them side to side (like Tesla). With R1, Rivian was able to include the cool features and design because “we weren’t that restricted on price point,” Hammoud said. For example, electrification appeared with the implicit expectation that it would bring a change in system architecture. But over time, automakers have come to realize that combustion system architecture is as good as it gets, and that it’s not incompatible with EV design. Fast forward to 2020, and this global approach to design evidenced its vulnerabilities.

Interior Motives Autumn 2020 Digital Edition

Once again, design was underpinned by the coming together of techniques and possibilities. The automotive design industry was faced with the choice between creating a pricey one-of-a-kind vehicle or affordable mass produced units, and they went for the latter. Much like in the overall development process, retroactive changes to components and systems that have already been agreed upon should be kept to an absolute minimum. Such changes may affect not only styling or design, but often many components, systems, or even the overall platform.

Car Design Publications

Architectural firms, Graphic designing firms, IT firms, and production firms also provide employment opportunities. The original designer must have sketched the vehicle’s interior, but before modeling takes place, a team would have to examine the sketch. The aim is to ensure the car’s interior dimension and appearance matches the car’s overall design.

The renders you are used to seeing today are all produced digitally, but perhaps you’ve seen the amazing analog renderings from back in the day. Those were all done in chalk, pastel and markers on colored paper, the loss of which is something that traditionalists lament because of the intangible artistic quality imbued by this traditional way of working. Ideas spawn by a designer are first translated onto paper in the form of hand-drawn sketches, after which the design is drafted, modeled, and rendered digitally. For instance, car designs were boxy in the 1960s but a tad more circular now. Also, electric and hybrid vehicles are the current trend, and people often buy them due to their numerous benefits. Knowing the latest market trend is one way to ensure you stay current in car designs. On the other hand, it’s also possible that automotive design starts focusing on creating uniform products for mass consumption, as well as one-offs for the wealthiest consumers. The styling process itself starts and runs in tandem with the product vision phase.

You are able to get closer to the life of the diarist through a selection of photographs, quotes, videos and other very personal elements such as pencil lines on the wall measuring the family’s height. Visiting Anne Frank House is unlike visiting a normal museum. This is a place where visitors are drawn to reflect on the life of Anne and her family. The inhabitants of the Secret Annex lived together during a very uncertain time. Life here was cramped and not easy, the windows were blacked-out and they had to spend their days in silence, afraid of being overheard by the staff working in the offices and warehouse below.

For visitors, however, it’s more than just another historical museum; it’s a pilgrimage that honors the life and courage of a young girl whose writing illuminated the darkness of her era. The creaking floorboards, the preserved spaces, and the hushed ambiance all offer a profound experience, allowing a solemn communion with one of history’s most poignant memories. The images have been added to the online exhibition ‘Anne Frank's Former Home’, which tells the story of Anne Frank and her family before they went into hiding. My husband Bill and I just visited the Anne Frank house and museum last week. It was an incredibly moving experience and an afternoon of my life that I will never forget. Like her, I wanted to grow up and become a journalist.

Anne’s Father Otto began new companies which dealt with the sale of canned goods in offices and warehouses alongside the Prinsengracht canal. Stepping through the secreted door into the annex, visiting Anne Frank House, the place where she penned her diary and learning about her life is an experience that you will not forget in a hurry. Unfortunately, photography is not permitted within the Anne Frank House— a policy that helps maintain the solemnity of the site while allowing guests to engage more profoundly with the stories contained within its walls.

Over the years, each Anne Frank movie has contributed uniquely to the public understanding of her life. They have brought Anne’s inner world to audiences of all ages, educating and evoking empathy. The emotional depth portrayed by the actresses playing Anne has consistently shed light on the human experience under persecution and the loss of innocence in the face of war.

Anne Frank poses in 1941 in this photo made available by Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is astonishing how some photos from the period have crystal clarity like this, but it does happen depending upon how well they were preserved over time. The people in the Secret Annex followed the advance of the Allied Forces on the radio. The exhibition tells the story of the Frank family in Frankfurt against the backdrop of the economic, social and political problems in Germany.

A city girl through and through, Patty has always planned her adventures in and around urban areas. Through her travel writing, she aims to make a compelling case for the global city as a place of endless discovery and satisfaction. Her goal is to detail how urban exploration can fulfill the desires of anyone and everyone, from cultural and culinary adventurers to historical and supernatural enthusiasts. Before the 1959 film, only two known pieces of media focused on Anne Frank were created. The other, interestingly, was actual footage of Anne, captured by a neighbor during a wedding. Today, there have been numerous films and shows made about Anne Frank, and only around 3 are verified to have filmed within the Anne Frank House.

For the Anne Frank video diary, we added many items to make the place look like a living room, bedroom and kitchen. Luckily we could get some details from the scale model. It is not allowed to take Anne Frank House photos once you are inside the museum. The ban on photography is aimed at preserving the respectful atmosphere inside the museum.

Here you can hand in your coat, bag, umbrella, buggy or pushchair. Handbags smaller than A4 may be taken into the museum. There is no room in the cloakroom for large bags, rucksacks, suitcases or other large items.

The Anne Frank Foundation was established on 3 May 1957 in cooperation with Otto Frank, Anne Frank's father, with the primary aim of collecting enough funds to purchase and restore the building. In October of that year, the company who owned it donated the building to the foundation as a goodwill gesture. The collected funds were then used to purchase the house next door, Number 265, shortly before the remaining buildings on the block were pulled down as planned.

Silberbauer was suspended by the police force pending an investigation of what he had done during the war. It was a decisive moment in the life of Silberbauer, who freely admitted to having arrested Frank and remembered the incident with clarity. After many years of working to infiltrate possible terrorist groups for the government (basically as a continuation of his sentence), Silberbauer was rehabilitated and set free.

Furthermore, the museum encourages visitors to explore the educational materials and resources provided, to fully grasp the historical context before their visit. The Achterhuis (Dutch for "back house") or Secret Annex – as it was called in The Diary of a Young Girl, an English translation of the diary – is the rear extension of the building. It was concealed from view by houses on all four sides of a quadrangle. Its secluded position made it an ideal hiding place for Otto Frank, his wife Edith, two daughters, Margot and Anne, of whom Anne was the younger, and four other Jews seeking refuge from Nazi persecution.

This is where the factory, offices, kitchen and warehouses of the business were located. In the daytime, these were busy with workers but by night the family were able to use some of these spaces. As the Anne Frank House stands as a monument to her life and the lives of millions lost, Anne Frank movies reinforce the house’s message of hope and humanity. They challenge viewers to reflect upon the value of life and the destructive nature of prejudice, making Anne’s story as relevant today as ever. These films have also driven interest in visiting the Anne Frank House, where visitors seek a deeper connection to the stories they have seen on screen.

Once inside the Anne Frank House, the journey through the secret annex is self-guided. Ample signage and an audio guide will offer insights into the Frank family’s daily life while in hiding. Allocate at least an hour for the tour to allow for moments of reflection as you move through the space. Shortly after the book was published, visitors were shown around by the employees who had hidden the families and could see the secret rooms. A campaign to save the building and to list it as a protected monument was started by the Dutch paper Het Vrije Volk on 23 November 1955. The building was saved by campaigners who staged a protest outside the building on the day of demolition.

As you visit the house and museum, you can see and read all about Anne’s life. I was moved to tears when I stood in the small bedroom that she shared with Fritz Pfeffer, a Jewish dentist. The pale beige wallpaper was stained, and it bore some of the pictures and posters that Anne had pinned on it during her time in The Secret Annex. Here, it is painfully clear that she was like most young girls – interested in movies, sports and fashion. And yet, she would prove to be so unlike any other adolescent. I felt that her room was a sacred space, where voice tones should be, out of respect, only a whisper.
